The Sapphire S55 is a flat wash brush — a wide, square-edged brush designed for laying down broad, even areas of colour with confidence. Whether you're flooding a background with a watercolour wash, blocking in large areas of acrylic, or applying an even coat of ink or gouache, the S55 covers ground quickly and smoothly.
Made from Daler-Rowney's blend of red sable hair and tapered synthetic filaments, it combines the colour-holding capacity and spring of a traditional sable with the durability of a synthetic. The flat profile holds a generous amount of colour and releases it evenly across the surface, making it particularly well suited to wet-on-wet watercolour techniques.
Works well across watercolour, oils, acrylics, inks, and gouache. Available in sizes 1/2", 3/4", and 1".
