The Aquafine AF48 is a fan brush designed primarily for watercolour, where its spread of synthetic filaments makes it particularly effective for soft blending and dry brush work. The fan shape allows you to feather colour across the surface with a light touch, softening edges between wet areas or dragging near-dry paint across textured paper to create broken, atmospheric marks.
It's a specialist brush for specific effects — most useful for painting distant trees, foreground grasses and foliage, fur, and any subject where you want a naturally irregular, textured edge rather than a clean line. The dry brush technique in particular suits the Aquafine's synthetic filaments well, as they hold less water than natural hair and release it more gradually.
