The Monarch Short Flat / Bright is the brush to reach for when you need real control over larger amounts of colour. Its short, flat shape gives you the leverage to push and load paint confidently — ideal for bold coverage, sharp edges, and working into textured surfaces.
Made from synthetic polyester filaments, it sits between sable and hog bristle in stiffness — firm enough to handle heavy-bodied oils, yet responsive enough for blending and glazing. Synthetic hair also means better durability and resistance to solvents compared to natural alternatives.
Compatible with oil colour, water-mixable oils, and acrylics. Finished with a gold ferrule and long dark brown lacquered handle, with the Monarch's signature variegated hair in ivory, gold, and brown.
Note: The Monarch range uses synthetic filaments as an ethical alternative to natural Mongoose hair, which is now an endangered species.
